X has reached an agreement to pay approximately $10 million to settle a lawsuit filed by President Trump over the suspension of his account on the platform in 2021, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Elon Musk, who became the owner of X in 2022 and is a close ally of Mr. Trump, reinstated the former president’s account shortly after taking control of the company. Musk has supported Trump publicly, donating over $250 million to his campaign and launching a government cost-cutting project known as the Department of Government Efficiency.

This settlement strengthens the ongoing relationship between Musk and Trump. The specifics of the settlement were not disclosed in court documents, but both X and Mr. Trump notified the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday that the lawsuit would be dismissed. Each party agreed to bear its own legal costs, as noted in the court filing.

The $10 million settlement figure was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. X declined to comment on the matter, and it remains unclear who will receive the settlement funds.

Mr. Trump also filed lawsuits against Facebook (Meta) and Google (YouTube) after his accounts on those platforms were suspended following the Capitol attack. Following the riot, Trump praised his supporters on Twitter, calling them “patriots,” and stated he would boycott Joe Biden’s inauguration, which Twitter believed could incite further violence. Twitter suspended his account due to the risk of “additional incitement.”

Meta settled its lawsuit with Mr. Trump last month, agreeing to a $25 million payment. In recent months, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, has also engaged with Trump, making donations to his inauguration fund and altering company policies to permit broader speech on its platforms.

In December, ABC News agreed to pay $15 million to settle a defamation lawsuit filed by Trump, with the money designated for his future presidential foundation and museum.

Meta’s settlement followed similar terms, with around $22 million allocated to Trump’s presidential library and $3 million earmarked for his legal fees and other plaintiffs involved in the lawsuit.
