Music icon, beauty entrepreneur, fashion designer—and now, Smurfette? Rihanna’s latest venture might just surprise you.
‘Smurfs’ Trailer Shows Rihanna as Smurfette (and Promises New Music)

On Thursday, Paramount unveiled the first trailer for “Smurfs,” offering a glimpse of the singer embodying the petite, blonde-haired, blue-skinned character. The film’s animation style merges sleek 3D visuals with touches reminiscent of traditional hand-drawn Smurfs cartoons. In the story, Smurfette leads her fellow Smurfs into the real, live-action world on a mission to Paris to track down Papa Smurf, who has mysteriously vanished.https://svtoday.org/
The trailer kicks off with Rihanna appearing as herself, directly addressing the audience.
“I can’t wait for you all to see it this summer,” she says, wearing oversized sunglasses that nearly obscure her Smurf-blue eye shadow. She had already teased the trailer a day earlier on Instagram, sharing a brief clip with the caption, “in my blue era.”
The animated film boasts a star-studded cast, including Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, and Dan Levy. It is directed by Chris Miller, known for his work on Shrek the Third and Puss in Boots. This musical-comedy reboot revives The Smurfs franchise, which last hit the big screen with Smurfs: The Lost Village in 2017.
Beyond voicing Smurfette, Rihanna also serves as a producer on the project. However, what’s likely to thrill her fans the most is the music news: at the end of the trailer, a message encourages viewers to “presave” the film’s soundtrack, which will feature brand-new music from Rihanna—the first since her 2016 album Anti.
Additionally, the movie’s soundtrack will include Higher Love, a track by Desi Trill featuring DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, and Subhi.
Smurfs is scheduled to hit theaters on July 18.
