Bill Belichick is weighing the possibility of becoming the next head coach at the University of North Carolina, according to four individuals familiar with the matter who spoke to The Athletic on Tuesday.

As of now, no agreement has been finalized, and discussions are ongoing, sources revealed. Although a deal could potentially be reached in the near future, insiders emphasized that significant hurdles remain, and the two sides are still negotiating several key aspects. The individuals requested anonymity since the talks between the 72-year-old Belichick and the Atlantic Coast Conference school have not been made public.https://wordpress.com/

On Monday, during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the legendary coach confirmed he had discussions with UNC Chancellor Lee Roberts about the open coaching position, which became available after the school dismissed Mack Brown shortly before the end of the regular season.

Belichick’s illustrious 24-year career with the New England Patriots included six Super Bowl championships alongside quarterback Tom Brady, a partnership that established him as one of the most successful coaches in NFL history. He has amassed 333 career wins, including playoffs, and is just 14 victories away from matching Don Shula’s all-time record for NFL head coaches.

Since leaving the Patriots, Belichick has been involved in media work, but his interest in returning to coaching has been evident for some time. If he accepts the UNC position, it would be his first role in college coaching. Earlier this year, Belichick spent time with the Washington Huskies, where his son, Steve Belichick, serves as the defensive coordinator under head coach Jedd Fisch, who is in his first year leading the program.
